Nouncountries
AnagramsFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. In geography, a country is a geographical region. The term is often applied to a political division or the territory of a sovereign state, or to a smaller, or former, political division of a geographical region. Usually, but not always, a country coincides with a sovereign territory and is associated with a state, nation or government. In common usage, the term country is used in the sense of both nations and states, with definitions varying. In some cases it is used to refer both to states and to other political entities, while in some occasions it refers only to states It is not uncommon for general information or statistical publications to adopt the wider definition for purposes such as illustration and comparison. Some cohesive geographical entities, which were formerly sovereign states, are commonly regarded and referred to still as countries; such as England, Scotland and Wales – in the United Kingdom. Historically, the countries of the former Soviet Union and Yugoslavia were others. Former states such as Bavaria (now part of Germany) and Piedmont (now part of Italy) would not normally be referred to as "countries" in contemporary English. The degree of autonomy of non-state countries varies widely. Some are possessions of states, as several states have overseas dependencies (such as the British Virgin Islands, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, and American Samoa), with territory and citizenry distinct from their own. Such dependent territories are sometimes listed together with independent states on lists of countries, and may be treated as a "country of origin" in international trade, as Hong Kong is. Some countries are divided among several states, such as Korea and Kurdistan. From Wikipedia under the

Why isnt Vietnam, or Africa, or Iran or those countries in the Olympics? Do they have to go through a process or long application to be accepted into the Olympics? Why dont those countries have a National Team to compete at International/world levels? Asked by i luv hockey - Tue Jun 17 23:18:53 2008 - - 5 Answers - 1 Comments A. How countries (territories, dependents and geographical areas) are selected to compete in the Olympics is by getting recognized by the International Olympic Committee. In 2004 Athens out of the 202 National Olympic Committees (NOCS) only Djibouti didn't participate. 2008 Beijing 3 new NOCs have been admitted Pacific Island nations of Tuvalu , Marshall Islands and Montenegro which declared its independence from the Serbian Republic. One area can only provide for so many persons and then people need to move on and explore to get more. Go back before the formation of most countries and you'll see how people lived in groups in areas that could provide for the group and how the group split up and part of it moved on when they were more people than the lands could support. In the early days that was hunter gatherers that moved on to better hunting ground. Then came the farmers, they needed another kind of land than the hunter gatherers and they often settled side by side and got along well. Then there were too many of them, the hunters couldn't find pray and the farmers needed more land to farm on. So they moved on and explored new areas.
